The Wellsboro cross country teams traveled to Wyalusing Tuesday afternoon to compete in a league meet.
The girls team came home with a sweep as they beat Wyalusing 15-48 and Northeast Bradford 26-30. Sophomore Jada Jackson was the top finisher for the Lady Hornets, with a second place overall finish in 20:51. Sophmores Jordyn Coffee (21:45) and Camryn Keane (21:47) came home in 4th and 5th, respectively followed by Sophomore Samantha Bailey in 7th at 22:18 and Senior Charlotte Worthington in 8th at 22:21.
Rounding out the rest of the finishers for the Lady Hornets were Caitlynn Butler in 11th (22:37), Junior Annie Sweeney in 13th (22:55), and Freshman Janessa Davis in 14th (23:17).
In the boys race, the Hornets lost to Northeast Bradford 15-48 and Wyalusing 19-38. Senior Joey Doganiero was the top finisher in 7th place in a time of 17:52. Freshman Joey Messmer came home 14th (19:15), Junior Dalton Messmer was 16th (20:33), Sophomore David Zavetsky finished in 18th (21:25), and Freshman Alden Weiner was in 19th (21:28).
"The girls had an impressive day sweeping the 3 team meet since Northeast Bradford had just beaten Wyalusing on the same course a week and a half ago," said head coach Tom Slichter. "The boys continue to improve but they were running against the best two boys teams in the NTL. Most of the boys improved their times from a week and half ago on the same course by at least 30 seconds."
The girls improve to 3-1 (3-1 NTL) while the boys fall to 1-3 (1-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 19 as they travel to Northern Potter.
