Girls XC wins three, boys drop three at Canton

The Wellsboro girls cross country team picked up wins over Canton, Towanda, and Troy Tuesday night in Canton.
The girls beat Canton 15-49, Troy 15-50, and Towanda 23-34. Sophomores Jada Jackson and Jordyn Coffee finished 2nd and 3rd in 20:27 and 21:18, respectively. Sophomore Camryn Keane clocked in 5th (21:50), Sophomore Samantha Bailey was 6th (22:02), Junior Caitlynn Butler finished 7th (22:33), Senior Charlotte Worthington was 11th (23:03), Junior Annie Sweeney was 13th (23:22), Freshman Janessa Davis was 14th (23:28), and Senior Baylee Mann was 20th (24:39).
In the boys race, the Hornets fell to Canton 33-23, Towanda 42-17, and Troy 42-20. Senior Joey Doganiero led the team with a 5th place finish in 17:47. Freshman Joey Messmer came home in 16th (19:46), Junior Dalton Messmer was 22nd (20:56), Freshman Alden Weiner was 23rd (20:59), Sophomore David Zavetsky was 27th (21:27).
In the Middle School races, the girls beat Canton 15-50, Towanda 21-38, and lost to Troy 42-18. In the boys race, Wellsbor lost by tiebreaker to Canton 28-28 and beat Towanda 15-48 and Troy 25-30.
The girls team improves to 8-2 (8-1 NTL), while the boys fall to 1-9 (1-8 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, October 10 as they host Jersey Short and Coudersport.
