District IV 2A Championships |
By: Ed Weaver / October 28, 2016
Sophomore Aidan Perry extended his cross country season with a 5th place overall finish in the District IV Class A Championships at Bloomsburg University on Thursday, October 27.
Perry ran a time of 17:37 to advance to the PIAA Championships in Hershey, and dropped almost two minutes off his time in last year's 25th place finish at Districts.
"I feel real good, a lot better than last year," Perry said after the race.
The Hornet boys finished 4th overall as a team with 115 places, and were behind Northeast Bradford (28), Southern Columbia (55), and Mount Carmel (77). Wyalusing (116) came home 5th, Troy (177) in 6th, Canton (182) in 7th, Sullivan County (207) in 9th, and Sayre (259) in 10th to round out the remaining Class A schools.
Junior Connor Brought (18:42) came home 19th, freshman Austin Richards (19:15) finished 28th, senior Alden Weiner (19:34) was 35th, sophomore Bergen Weiner (19:39) was 36th, sophomore Zack Busch (20:17) was 45th, and senior Bryon Callahan (20:48) was 52nd.
"We had a really strong day. The conditions are less than favorable but they ended the season well," said head coach Ron Brought. "Both teams ran better than expected, finished well within the NTL placings, but there was some great competition today as well."
In the Class AA girls race, the Lady Hornets (223) finished 9th but were the highest NTL team in the field. Danville (55) won over Selinsgrove (79), while Cowanesque Valley (287) was 11th, Towanda (343) was 14th, and Athens (346) was 15th.
Junior Anna Bleggi was 19th overall in 21:10, freshman Kayla Mengee was 33rd in 22:31, sophomore Rachel Chamberlain (23:43) was 51st, freshman Jaime Palmer (24:08) was 58th, sophomore Kara Doane (24:59) finished 72nd, freshman Kylie Butler (25:03) came home 74th, and freshman Emma Palmer (27:12) was 92nd.
Next up for Perry and Coach Brought are the PIAA Championships on Saturday, November 5 in Hershey.
"I'm giving Aidan the weekend off then we're gonna hit it hard the beginning of the week. A few days of taper before the meet and we'll see how he does," Brought said on next week's training. "He's running strong."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate the Cross Country teams on excellent seasons, and would like to wish Aidan the best of luck next weekend at States.
