Hornet boys split, girls fall to Athens and Mansfield

The Wellsboro Boys Cross Country team split with Athens and North Penn-Mansfield while the Girls Cross Country team fell to both on Tuesday, September 29.
Athens beat the Hornets 17-43 and North Penn-Mansfield 20-41. The Hornets beat their rival Tigers 16-20.
The Lady Wildcats edged North Penn-Mansfield 26-29 and topped the Lady Hornets 23-33. The Lady Tigers edged the Lady Hornets 27-29.
For the boys senior Gabe Guignard finished 4th with a time of 20:02, freshman Chris Greenawalt (20:28) was 8th, freshman Joseph Busch (21:29) was 10th, and sophomore Tristan Lane (46:48) was 14th.
For the girls junior Havah Simcox (23:45) was 3rd overall, junior Julia DeCamp (25:52) was 7th, sophomore Emily Morris (28:47) was 13th, sophomore Madison Robbins (29:22) was 16th, and sophomore Maddy Callahan (30:16) was 19th.
In the Middle School race the Athens and Wellsboro boys beat North Penn-Mansfield 15-50 while the Wildcats beat the Hornets 19-40. In the girls race Athens beat North Penn-Mansfield 23-32 and Wellsboro 14-22 while North Penn-Mansfield beat the young Lady Hornets 24-31. Lauren Kosek won the girls race in 12:00, Makenna Robbins (16:09), and Kristina Belz (16:22) was 10th. Michael Knefly (10:35) was 2nd overall for the boys followed by Henery Whitney (13:29) in 7th, and Robbie Bowers (13:47) in 8th.
